Biography: ENG / NED

Amsterdam-based singer-songwriter Robin Block writes dreamy pop songs. In his very own style, he combines rich arrangements with uplifting vocal harmonies and has a special way of taking the intimate atmosphere of his music to the live stage.

Robin Block was awarded “Best Musician” at the ‘Grand Prize of the Netherlands’, one of the most prestigious national competitions in the singer-songwriter genre. Ever since, he has built up a successful performance practice at known venues such as the Paradiso in Amsterdam, followed by several TV and radio performances.

In 2012 Robin Block released his debut album Comfort Zones. Together with band member Julien Oomen (bass, vocals) and guest musician Nora Fischer (piano, vocals), he withdrew in a country house for over a month to record his songs in splendid isolation. All the basic musical parts, but also all sound effects, soundscapes and background sounds have been recorded in and around the house; water boilers, wine glasses, tuning forks, brooms, doors, even the birds in the garden have all found their proper place in this unique collection of songs. Barely a week after the recordings a short circuit caught fire and destroyed a large part of the house.

Robin Block is currently working on a new album.

He is also a poet and performer in the music theatre group Project Wildeman and a vocalist in electronic blues noise duo Murderer’s Home
